Federal Member for Parramatta, Julie Owens MP, congratulated the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) on the release of the first results of the 2011 Census Data. “The Census takes a snapshot of Australia every five years,” Ms Owens said. “The Census data is essential to ensure that government, business and communities can make informed decisions.I want to congratulate the ABS on the excellent job they do in ensuring this data is reliable and accurate.”
The Census has revealed some interesting statistics here in the electorate of Parramatta — The population is now 164,652; there are 42,340 families with an average 1.8 children per family; the most commonly spoken language at home other than English is Chinese (11.7%); and the median household income is $1,268 per week.
This was the 16th Census of the Australian population. A workforce of nearly 43,000 short-term employees collected the data, while it took 800 staff nearly eight months to process the data.
