Radhey Shyam Gupta
Promoting Indian art has always been foremost on musician Radhey Shyam Gupta’s mind. And for more than two decades the sitarist has been organising Sangeetha Sandhyas or musical evening to create awareness about Indian music and culture in Australia.
Gupta was voted the Indus Age Person of the Year and received his award from (the now late) Dr Subhakanta Behera, the Indian Consul General. “I thank the people who voted for me and I take this as an honour especially because it is people’s choice award,” said Gupta, as he received his award.
A few weeks later, Gupta told Indian Executive that he was very happy to receive the honour from Dr Subhakanta Behera, who passed away on 9 November. “I will consider the award a memorial,” said Gupta.
