Indian-origin engineer named People of Australia Ambassador


As part of Australia’s new multicultural policy, the Prime Minister Hon Julia Gillard has announced that the Australian Multicultural Council will appoint up to 40 People of Australia Ambassadors. Indian-born civil engineer Deepak Vinayak is one of those honoured to represent Australian community and their multicultural programs that strengthen neighbourhoods and unite all Australians.

“As Ambassador I will provide ‘grass roots’ input to the Australian Multicultural Council and to the Australian government,” says Vinayak, who is also member of the Royal Victorian Association of Honorary Justices (RVAHJ) and Hume City Council Craigieburn Festival Committee. Vinayak was also nominated for the Pride Of Australia Medal 2010/2011 and is a recipient of the Multicultural Award for Excellence 2010, from the Premier of Victoria, Australia. He is also founder/secretary: South Asian Community Link Group.

“I thank the people from our community, my parents, and my friends who always supported me and encouraged me to work for the people of Australia for the last 15 years,” says Vinayak. “I am really proud of the country of my birth but am also proud to be an Australian.”
