On 22 February, the Victorian Government’s cleantech trade delegates visited the Ramkay Group and its Jawaharnagar waste management facilities at Jawaharnagar in Hyderabad.
Most of the labourers who work at the waste management site stay in a small colony in Jawaharnagar and their children go to a small two-room school in same colony for basic primary education.
This school runs under the “Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan” Andhra Pradesh managed by the Ramkay Foundation. All the students here get free education and afternoon lunch. Trade delegates were also taken to the school, and during the visit, Manoj Kumar, one of the members of the group, spoke to the children to get a better understanding of their needs.
The students were excited with the encouragement given by Manoj Kumar about the importance of educations and their role for society. During the interaction, the children spoke about their interest in education and their desire to become better citizens of the country.
Manoj Kumar also talked to the principal of the school, Mr Balaji, and asked him to increase the number of social and environmental related activities in the school.
